TARKIN!

Showtime: February 14, 2008 - 8:30pm

Tarkin is a 6-piece band that takes North American folk traditions from across the spectrum and blends them together to create a sound that's folk music with a West Coast flair. Sometimes irreverent, often thoughtful, always entertaining, Tarkin's original and traditional songs encompasse a cross-genre acoustic folk style.

With six voices and over a dozen different instruments at hand, Tarkin goes from old-time to country swing to ceilidh band as the instruments get passed around. They've been described as "a bunch of multi-instrumentalist gypsies, roving over the mountains of the West Coast."

raised by wolves in the yukon, i made it out alive by laying low, if you know what i mean. i soon realized my true form was not that of a lupine mammal. So I turned down the call of the wild and left without saying goodbye. i joined the merchant marine at halifax and was off to see the world. tired of life at sea, i decided to jump ship at the infamous Tierra Del Fuego on the southernmost tip of south america. once in port i quickly buried my share of the merchant profits somewhere in the dark mountains of cortez. 127 spanish dubloons along with fifty-five saphire rubies from the treasure troves of king tut. soon after that, in argentina, i joined the escalating revolutionary war and accidentally found my life's career: undersea microbiological physics.

Fairfax Mission

Showtime: January 24, 2008 - 8:00pm

Nordstrom's first official CD release as The Fairfax Mission, Once and Over Again , contains 13 original songs that span a wide range of sonic and lyric sensibilities. Ambient and electric, Once and Over Again 's arrangements create an aural environment that pulls the listener into an organic tonal core, a realm of deliberate design and elemental care. Once and Over Again 's lyrics carry the listener on an eloquent, introspective journey through relationships, land claims talks, social commentary, and the tensions in everyday life.
