We are proud sponsors of Coffee to End Poverty

About Engineers Without Borders: For the 800 million people who go hungry each day and the one billion who lack access to clean water, poverty is an absence of opportunity.

Engineers Without Borders responds to this need, helping people in developing communities gain access to technologies that will improve their lives. We believe that technology, when appropriately incorporated into each community's social, cultural, economic and political context, can drive extraordinary change.

Central City Jazz with guest Christina

Showtime: April 26, 2008 - 7:00pm

Central City Jazz consists of saxes, brass, guitars and rhythm, with a repertoire of contemporary and classic jazz, swing, R&B and pure improvisation. Central City has played many large corporate events, small local venues and coffee houses to much regard. We evolved from the Whalley Legion Junior Band, (which in turn evolved from the Surrey Fireman’s Band in 1958). The Whalley Legion Junior Band (WLJB) provided an artistic outlet for youth aged 12 to 18 from Surrey and surrounding areas, and developed into an award-winning marching band, colour guard, concert band, choir, and jazz big band. After many years traveling the world with the WLJB, the folks who ran the band decided it was time to turn it over to us “young ‘uns”.

Kaylee Johnston

Showtime: April 25, 2008 - 8:00pm

Kaylee Johnston is a passionate eighteen-year-old
singer/songwriter. She wrote her first song at the age of nine, and
since then has grown and developed numerous alternative pop songs. She
began singing at age six and started playing her guitar when she was
fifteen. Influenced by singers like Avril Lavigne and Sarah McLauchlan,
she began to learn their songs and styles. After only a few months of
playing, she was composing on the guitar. One year ago she did a
three-song demo with Bill Buckingham and is now looking forward to
recording her first full length album!

Sillken-2 well travelled musicians

Showtime: April 19, 2008 - 8:00pm

Sillken is made up of Michèle & Ken Cade - formerly two solo
artists until recently - you may have seen them at the Freetimes Cafe,
C'est What, and at other various acoustic gathering spots around
Toronto. Michèle and Ken moved to Vancouver two years ago, where they
are active on the west coast music scene. With warm vocals, classical

contemporary country/folk originals. Michèle's is one of those voices
that draws you in and makes each song feel personal and intimate.
Michèle has a great interest in furthering the cause of women and
female performers. Some of her signature songs include a song that asks
the question, What is a Woman?

Beth Whitney and Sheree Plett

Showtime: April 17, 2008 - 8:00pm

Beth Whitney, a uniquely gifted singer/songwriter from Snohomish,
Washington, is definitely an artist to watch. At 23, she shows a
remarkable mastery of wordplay and a genuine love of language, along
with a pop sensibility rarely seen in a songwriter so young. “As I learn and experience the
world—God, life, love, all of it—I write it down and arrange it, figure
it out. I love doing that. It’s how I write songs,” she says. A self-taught guitarist, Beth’s own musical heroine, and a great
influence on her sound, is Mindy Smith. “She has a beautiful soul and
writes/sings songs that rip me to pieces,” says Beth. Her other
influences include singer Jennifer Knapp, hip-hop soulster Lauryn Hill
and jazz great Diana Krall.

Honey and the Money

Showtime: April 7, 2008 - 8:00pm

When Leila Harrison and Matt Clarke started playing music together six
years ago, there wasn’t much of a plan. Matt was finishing theatre
school and playing coffee shops, and Leila was busy acting and had
never sung publicly; the thought of forming a band together hadn’t even
crossed their minds. Oh how things change. Over the ensuing years Honey
and the Money took form, as the pop singer-songwriters carefully and
relentlessly carved out a sound and voice for themselves that is
contemporary and forward thinking while staying emotionally loaded.
They have spent the past two years writing and recording their first
full length record, “The Elephant in the Room.” It is an ambitious and
stunning debut. With moments that rock to moments that make you shake
