"The month of May is Asian Heritage Month. This month is an
opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the rich history of Asian
Canadians and their contributions to our country. Since its inception
in Toronto in 1993, cities across Canada including Montreal, Ottawa and
Vancouver have been holding annual festivities to recognize Asian
Heritage Month.
CBC invites you to take part in events that commemorate Asian
Canadian history and to reflect on the vital social, cultural, economic
and political legacies of communities that continue to shape Canada."
We first met a member of this band at Art school (Emily Carr). This band is electrifying on stage and aesthetically pleasing like a fashion turn-table remix of 80's and 90's "Degrassi" . They are playing Monday night March 10th at the Monk and here's a message they wanted me to pass on to the community:
"Trike is going on tour for three months to Europe (perhapslonger)!!! So we have planned our last bash before we depart.
Arts in the City, Arts in the Sanctuary is a mezzanine or cross-roads where church and community can share a common enjoyment of creativity and the arts.
The art show goes on from February 15th to the 23rd. Local musicians Tarkin, James Lamb and Adam Thomas Trio will be performing on the night of the 23rd. All three musical acts have played at the Wired Monk at one point or another but never on the same night. There's no doubt that this night will be a dynamic blend - from bluegrass to indy folk to jazz. Wow.
2 degrees of Fear and Desire is theatre without a play – just us and our fears, desires, and challenges facing global warming. Facilitated, or joked, by Headlines Theatre’s David Diamond, the audience is invited to use theatre techniques to delve deep into their community’s and their own experiences, to turn the spotlight away from the spectacle of environmental devastation and shine it in the mirror.

Much like a mink or a marten, we are northern scavengers who scour for inspiration and creative consciousness. To survive we stock pile urban beats, funky melodies and inspirational lyrics to songs that express the contrasts of our environment. Indigenous to Vancouver, B.C. we often find ourselves surrounded by the bliss of the mountains while submersed in the destitution of our city streets. We are a creative undertaking featuring the multi-instrumental stylings of Andrew Clements and DJ Redworm (Michael Fraser). It's vintage guitars, turntables, 80's synth and jazz violin combined to hold down any room big or small. We are Fur Bearing Animals.
