"Blind God (http://www.myspace.com/blindgod1) is a bluesy, duo act. Blind God consists of Dave Olajide (steel
guitar/banjo/vocals) and Ray Garraway (drums). They have played
together for over 6 years and have captivated audiences with their dark
sound and beautiful, honest lyrics. Ray, who tours and records with
multi Juno award winning hip-hop artist K-OS, has been called a genius,
and gets the crowd going with his unparrallel, unmatched beats! Daves
sweet guitar riffs and clever lyrics command attention and make you
feel as though you are starring in a Quentin Tarantino movie! Blind God
has been consistantly filling rooms around the lower mainland and
leaving the crowd wanting more."
Opening act this evening should not be missed! Richard King has played here many times and always to the pleasure of a house crowd: www.myspace.com/richardkingmusic
"Born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Richard grew up with his mom, grandmother, older sister and younger brother at a momentous period in U.S. history, just prior to school integration. Happily, this relatively peaceful town saw music as a common way of bringing cultures together, to join in mutual expression and understanding. Like many others, Richard's (or 'Dap Daddy' as he would be called when he was a kid, "...owing to my dad Wadell sending me snazzy clothing from L.A...") musical education began in the choir in Mount Cavalry Church and in the back of his friend's garage, and continued a few miles away when a 30 minute drive landed you at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. Here, weekends gave way to live concerts where Richard was influenced by bands such as the Allman Brothers, Boz Scaggs and the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. On a summer trip in the late 60's with pal Jimmy Fox,Richard discovered freedom, his father and Hollywood, California; soon after, he relocated to the West Coast. "After L.A. was done, I headed north to Santa Cruz and played some of my first solo gigs, where original songs were a plus. I had written some acoustic originals by then." Then, moving north once again, Richard headed to Canada, stopping first in Victoria, B.C., then finally coming to rest in Vancouver. "I hitchhiked up to Vancouver and arrived on Easter Day. Being Sunday, there was an annual tradition in Stanley Park for open (air) live music, and I fell in love." Stories of Richard's journeys can be heard not only in his lyrics, but felt in his music. From his influences of Jimi Hendrix, The Chamber Brothers, Richie Havens, Neil Young, Bob Marley, Elvis Costello, Leon Russel, the harmonies of Pentangle as well as his home town gospel and blues, Richard King's music truly transcends boundaries. Richard currently resides in Burnaby, B.C. Canada, with his wife, daughter and many friends."
